Pushing Through Pitching Plateaus

Spread the love

Pushing Through Pitching PlateausThere will be stretches as a pitcher when you don’t feel sharp. It may feel like the mound is 80 feet away, if not more. Now whether you call it dead arm, a pitching slump, or just lack of focus, the goal remains the same. Making Pitches to Get OutsThat is the most direct is pushing through pitching plateaus. Unfortunately, they happen to everyone. So you aren’t alone on this. It is how you respond to the change of pace is what separates you from your peers. Also, what keeps the ERA minimal.

When this adversity strikes, the first thing to do is stay the course. You will have to gut your way through some tough situations. When the physical tools are lacking, the mental side picks up more of the slack. So prepare to be drained, and it is fine. That means you rose to the occasion and are now more inclined to get the job done,

Extend your focus to better locating pitchesOverthrowing when it feels like puss, is still throwing puss. It is the location which will get hitters out.

If you have to sit down and away with the fastball, then do it. If it is new to you, find a way to get into a groove. When you have to rely on a 3rd or 4th pitch, then you will then better understand how to use it effectively.

Reading the Hitter

Pushing through Pitching Plateaus

The more you are challenged, the more you have to be strategic in winning the battleThat means paying more attention to a hitter’s tendencies and his swings, in order to find his weaknesses. At that point, what is the need for peak velocity when he is going to get himself out anyways?

For the hitters that can battle you with their discipline, you have to match them on each pitch. It takes more to fool them and they won’t miss their pitch when they get it. Therefore, can you throw a 2-0 change up, then a 2-1 Slider? When you get to 2-2, where do you want to go then? Whatever pitch you make, it all comes down to conviction…

Along with staying the course, improvising is an asset in pushing through pitching plateaus. Like I just stated, finding new ways to get hitters out. When your strengths return, you will have more weapons in your arsenal to work with and succeed! So when you get into a rough patch, keep the mindset that you will come out of this better, stronger, and more advanced. Because you will!
